Four-alarm fire destroys Costa's Greek Diner & Bar

Sad news out of Greektown: A four-alarm fire Sunday evening has left Costa’s Greek Diner & Bar (340 S. Halsted St., 312-263-9700) heavily damaged and "a complete loss," according to the Chicago Tribune. First responders were called to the scene around 11:45 p.m. Sunday night as flames engulfed the popular neighborhood restaurant. No injuries were reported.
The manager of Costa’s told firefighters that what began as a kitchen fire may have been escalated by a deep fryer, though the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Around 45 fire companies responded to the blaze. According to Fire Department Spokesman Quention Curtis, more than 150 firefighters worked to put out the fire until after 3 a.m.
The neighboring building (322-330 S. Halsted St.), which houses Athens Grocery And Liquor, Greektown Gift & Music Shop, and Pan Hellenic Pastry Shop also sustained considerable damage.
