Goose Island’s 312 will be brewed in New York

Since sifting through dull newspapers, hyperbolic blogs, and overflowing RSS feeds for meaningful news can be an arduous process, News Net catches and compiles both the amusing and the significant reports that were overlooked throughout the workweek. Here are some things to think about as the weekend begins.
• The Tribune reported that Goose Island’s 312 Urban Wheat Ale will be brewed in an Anheuser-Busch facility in Baldwinsville, New York. Who knew the area code stretched that far?
• The Sun-Times did a little research on what happened to the bands in Lollapalooza’s inaugural lineup after the 1991 festival, shedding light on the career status of such acts as the Violent Femmes; ska-punk group Fishbone (“still a hot live band”); and Butthole Surfers, a band that the paper implied had probably dissolved, but which is actually on tour this summer.
• The Illinois Secretary Of State’s office has been directed to look into selling corporate ads on its license plates, possibly to reduce the cost of vehicle registration for drivers who consent to the ads. Hopefully we’re looking at something more respectable than “ExxonMobil presents ‘Illinois’” and less silly than a graphic of Abraham Lincoln shoulder-to-shoulder with Planters’ Mr. Peanut.
• Here’s a video worth watching if the rest of the Internet is down: former Chicago Bull Dennis Rodman’s sassy rendition of Pearl Jam’s “Alive.”
• The Chicago chapter of Snoop Dogg’s Snoop Youth Football League launched at the Chicago Indoor Sports Facility on Saturday, with Snoop himself showing up to high-five and dance with the kids.
