Guy Fieri and Vanilla Ice dined together at Sunda last night
Salut, Rob Van Winkle!
Since sifting through dull newspapers, hyperbolic blogs, and overflowing RSS feeds for meaningful news can be an arduous process, News Net catches and compiles both the amusing and the significant reports that were overlooked throughout the workweek. Here are some things to think about as the weekend begins.
• It’s hard to believe this isn’t an April Fool’s joke, but apparently it’s legit: Vanilla Ice and Guy Fieri dined together last night at Billy Dec’s restaurant Sunda. Oh, to be a fly on the wall for that meal.
The two were apparently in town for the Scripps Network upfronts at the Chicago Theatre. Ice then flew back to London where, this December, he will be starring (again, not a joke) as Captain Hook in a production of Peter Pan.
• Native Foods Café, a vegan restaurant chain, plans to open three locations in Chicago this summer. The California company has seven restaurants in its home state, but these new locations are the first outside the region. The outlets will be in Wicker Park (1480 N. Milwaukee), the Loop (105 W. Adams), and Lakeview (1023-25 W. Belmont).
• A Glenview waitress was arrested after a sting operation caught her selling beer to a 12-year-old. The pre-teen was accompanied by several other youths—none over 18—to the Premier Billiards & Café, where they ordered a round and were served. Hey, whatever, man. Those kids were just looking to party.
• Northbrook Garage, the suburban band of non-drunk pre-teens who sang with Sharon Jones, has released its debut single. “So What” is available now on CD Baby and iTunes.
