Help Gonzo Chicago create a video archive of Chicago music
Videographer John Yingling started Gonzo Chicago with a simple mission: to bring fans closer to their favorite bands with in-depth pics, videos, and interviews. Since the inception of Gonzo, Yingling’s videotaped more than 500 shows, creating a virtual archive of modern Chicago rock. Whether it’s a local shlub strumming an acoustic guitar at a sandwich joint or indie superstars Handsome Furs, Gonzo wants the skinny.
However, as is often the case, lack of funds can make things tricky. Film equipment ain’t cheap, and the cost is keeping Yingling from covering bands that wouldn’t normally get such coverage.
Bands like Yellow Thief, Snacks, and Lechuguillas are asking you to support Yingling by playing a benefit show this Saturday, April 23, at Reggie’s. For a suggested donation sum of five measly dollars, concertgoers will not only hear some nifty music, but also support some under-the-radar indie gems.
For those who can’t attend but still want to help a brother out, donations can be made through IndieGogo, a Kickstarter-style site. Donors will receive all sorts of prizes for helping out, from custom video shoots to signed Walkmen records.
