I Fight Dragons signs with Atlantic Records

Local chip-tune outfit I Fight Dragons has just signed to Atlantic Records’ Photo Finish label, and will also embark on upcoming tour with Cobra Starship in April. The marriage between I Fight Dragons and Atlantic is yet another signal executives at major labels are trying to move beyond mainstream names and into niche acts that have successfully developed a following online. Presumably Dragons’ M.O. of giving their music away for free via e-mail to fans will be tweaked by now being on a label, but the band remains steadfast about not changing its approach to music.

"They were really interested in us from the get-go," singer Brian Mazzaferri tells The A.V. Club. "They're really interested in us keeping our creative control, as opposed to some other people, who were like, 'We really like what you're doing, but how 'bout we take out the chip tune?'" Dragon’s upcoming tour winds its way back to Chicago May 15.
