Intelligentsia to release Anticon-inspired coffee blend later this year

Never before have the words “corporate synergy,” “indie hip-hop,” and “robust coffees” been uttered in the same sentence, but here we have it: As the above photo suggests, local coffee-roaster and -retailer Intelligentsia has been working with San Francisco label Anticon in a new partnership to release blends inspired by their music. Why? National Production Manager Sean McMahon tells The A.V. Club that the label came to the company five months ago out of sheer appreciation for its products. McMahon couldn’t remember which artists helped get the ball rolling, but says Intelligentsia hopes to take back the relationship between music and coffee that Starbucks has sullied. “We’re not throwing out Kenny G on our counter,” says McMahon.

The blend is still early in production, and when pressed, McMahon wasn’t able to comment on how the blend tastes or smells. The Anticon blend is due out “by year’s end.” Looks like the best part of waking up is soon to be Doseone.
