Jeff Non-Equity Award nominations announced to the usual grumblings

The 2009 Jeff Non-Equity Award nominations (as of last year, they're no longer considered merely "citations") were announced this morning. Lifeline Theatre leads the way with 14 nominees, with Mariette In Ecstasy and The Mark Of Zorro up for best play. Theo Ubique Theatre Company received 13 nominees for their production of Evita (which is still running through May 31), Jacques Brel's Lonesome Losers Of The Night, and Belle Barth: If I Embarrass You, Tell Your Friends. The ceremony takes place Monday, June 8 at the Park West.

This year's "what the fuck?" controversy (there are few things more fun than complaining about awards snubs) is about The Hypocrites' Our Town. It was the most critically acclaimed production in the whole darn city last year and transferred to New York this spring, where it's currently enjoying a long run. But, somehow, it only snagged two nominations. Jeff = nuts.

Ladies and gentlemen, a complete list of the nominees.
