Welcome to Tapes ’n’ Tapes, a bimonthly video series focusing on local cassette labels to help get the feel for why some people have turned to tapes for their musical medium.

After cathartic post-punk band Lion Of The North released the second pressing of an EP called The Compass Calls on a label called Common Ground Records, guitarist Harrison Hickok decided to release the third incarnation of the record on his own label in 2008. Since then, Kid Sister Everything has racked up a dozen records in its name, from punk groups like Antilles, Mountain Asleep, and Grown Ups. Hickok has focused primarily on vinyl, but this summer he released the label’s first cassette, a live EP by Fargo, North Dakota post-hardcore act Animal Lover.

The A.V. Club headed to Kid Sister Everything’s base of action in Logan Square to discuss the durability of cassettes, not following a key when creating album art, and how great Weezer’s first effort sounds on tape.
