Lakeshore Theater shutting down April 10

April Fools' Day is a pretty annoying day for e-mail inboxes around the Internet in general, but here’s one note we just got that The A.V. Club wishes was a prank: The Lakeshore Theater has announced it will be closing its doors forever next weekend on April 10. “Unfortunately this is anything but an April Fool's joke,” Publicity / Box Office Manager Laura Bluett told The A.V. Club in an e-mail. After rebooting itself eight years ago and subsequently becoming a reliable venue for seeing relevant and on-the-rise comedians (most recently, Nick Thune) and the occasional intriguing musician (like Iron & Wine last year), Lakeshore Co-Owner and Executive Producer Chris Ritter said in a press release that “there’s simply no money available to fund forward-looking initiatives.” The Lakeshore’s final shows will be Australian comedian Jim Jefferies on April 9 and 10—meaning that so-close-we-could-taste it run of intriguing Mort Sahl and Dick Gregory performances aren’t happening. That also means you’ve got one week to change your plans and hold a post-show Chipotle burrito-vigil next Saturday night.
