Just Announced Laptops now warming up: Initial lineup for debut Sonar Festival announced

Looking at "the bean" and listening to Kid Koala may cause brain damage.

The much-ballyhooed and -traveled Sonar Festival hits Chicago the weekend of Sept. 9, and techno-heads have much to be happy about. The first round of artists were announced this week, including Kid Koala's new project The Slew, Oval, Ben Frost, and Nosaj Thing. More to come, of course, including hopefully some bigger names. (The universally adored LCD Soundsystem, for example, performed at this year’s Spanish version.)

Ticket price for this throwdown? Absolutely nothing, courtesy of the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs. Given that the two hottest music festivals in town—Pitchfork and Lollapalooza—are as pricey as ever and require loads of patience to withstand the heat and unruly crowds, the Sonar Festival has some serious perks.
