Like the Hideout Block Party, but in Michigan: Meet the Wavelength Music & Arts Festival
Because, hey, why not have another regional music festival, Chicagoans have yet another opportunity to enjoy some fine local independent music… in Michigan. The inaugural Wavelength Music & Arts Festival will go down July 31 in Three Oaks, Mich., about an 80-minute drive from Chicago.
The fest covers range of genres, but most of the notable acts—Robbie Fulks, The Sea And Cake’s Archer Prewitt (billed with “friends”), Freakwater, Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, Bottomless Pit—hail from Chicago, so it might seem a little odd to drive 70 miles to see local artists. But hey, the pastoral setting is a nice, especially considering this lineup could double for the Hideout Block Party—and the industrial wasteland around Wabansia and Elston ain’t pretty. And Squirm Orchestra sounds interesting—think The Books meets the industrial clang of Einstürzende Neubauten. They reportedly use chickens as instruments!
Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door and go to a good cause: local community radio station WRHC 106.7 FM.
