Listen to French electro artist Sebastian’s end-of-summer mix for The A.V. Club

French electro artist Sebastian rarely makes appearances stateside, so it’s kind of a treat when he does. He’ll be at the Congress Theater Saturday, Sept. 3, appearing with Diplo, Zed’s Dead, and Lance Herbstrong. With Labor Day weekend—and fall—looming, The A.V. Club thought we’d better get Sebastian’s top end-of-summer tracks. His picks are presented below with a little commentary on each one. Jam out and enjoy the rest of this sweltering week.

Amon Duul II—“Kirk Morgan”
Sebastian: This is a nice poppy song for the summer.

Sam Cooke—“A Change is Gonna Come”
S: It’s just so perfect. It’s so sweet and deep at the same time.

Billie Holiday—“Solitude”
S: This is probably my favorite track ever. It’s a velvet song.

Jacques Dutronc—“Les Roses Fanées”
S: I love this guy. He’s so funny. He makes such good French music too, of course.

Raphael Saadiq—“The Answer”
S: I didn’t hear about him for a long time, and then he came back with a nice album. It’s great for the summer.

Chet Baker—“Blue Room”
S: He’s got the best voice ever. I can’t even tell you anything about this track. The vocal is so incredible that you just have to listen.

Kathy Young And The Innocents—“A Thousand Stars”
S: Maybe I like this one because of an old story I heard coming from the writer James Ellroy. I remember one day that he said when he was young he was listening to this song in the garden on an old radio. He was chilling with a friend and it was the summer, and it’s when he heard this song that he said for the first time to himself, “One day, I’ll be a big writer,” and when you know what happens in his books, it’s fun to hear this so-sweet summer song.

John Legend—“Do You Wanna Ride” (live)
S: This one’s just because I like John Legend. He’s got a great voice.

The Doobie Brothers—“What A Fool Believes”
S: This song IS the summer.

Carmen McRae—“When Sunny Gets Blue”
S: This is the same as that Chet Baker song. You just have to listen, preferably in a park or somewhere at home, in a good mood. You’ll see.
