Local smooth jazz radio station shuts down
It just got a bit harder to get your Kenny G on in Chicago.
WNUA 95.5, Chicago's go-to station for smooth jazz, is shifting to a Spanish-language format. Clear Channel made the decision after realizing there was more money in Spanish-language broadcasting, according to the Chicago Tribune. WNUA's revenue was also down in recent years while WLEY-FM 107.9 and Univision's WOJO-FM 105.1 showed gains. Clear Channel also cited the Hispanic community, 28 percent of the city's population, as a good reason to add another Spanish-language station. Smooth jazz fans will now have to satisfy their unquenchable thirst for Kenny G and Chuck Mangione during frequent visits to Macy's.
