Sure, Valentine's Day sees an influx of lovey-dovey restaurant specials, but the pendulum swings both ways; plenty of bars and clubs get into the opposite spirit, inviting patrons to tear up pictures of their exes and/or commiserate with other lonely hearts club members. Also: anonymous dry-humping. But for the silent majority—who could give a damn about the "holiday" and just want to have a good time—here's Decider's guide to notable neutral happenings on Feb. 14.
Flosstradamus at the Abbey Pub
These hometown heroes take over the Abbey Pub, spinning hip-hop and electronica, with techno artist Gatekeeper. A photographer will be on hand to take mock-prom photos—everyone likes prom photos, right?
Handmade Market at the Empty Bottle
Another installment of this monthly event has arrived; between 12 and 4:30 p.m., local crafters sell handmade wares like jewelry, handbags, clothing, and paper crafts.
Stay Smooth DJs at Schubas
Michael McDonald probably never imagined that twentysomethings in the new millennium would get down to his hip-to-be-square beats, but that's exactly what goes down each time DJs STV SLV and Bald Eagle take control of the turntables.
Lights at Beat Kitchen
The Canadian electropop star describes her feel-good music as "not sexy happy, but apple pie happy." It'll be impossible to leave this 7 p.m. show (plenty of time left for "the drinking") in anything resembling a bad mood.
Rory Lake's Karaoke Dreams at the American Legion
One of the most fun, supportive karaoke nights in the city is run by a guy wearing a fake mullet, fake braces, and a T-shirt with a python on it. He refers to singers as "dreamers" and regularly fake-plays a mini Casio keyboard along with the songs. Plus, it's at the American Legion, where $2 PBR and $1 whiskey shots flow like boxed wine.
