Some bands try to be clever, lyric, or meaningful with their names. Maggot Twat has surpassed them all with sheer bluntness. Say it loud, and it sounds like the deathcore despair the band evokes with such tongue-in-cheek elegance. (They know fully well it's a questionable band name.) Note also the densely packed layers of meaning: Not only does the name Maggot Twat capture perfectly the nexus of sex and death around which their music revolves; it artfully juxtaposes the twin impulses of the Freudian superstructure, Thanatos and the libido. Not to mention the underlying sexual perversions (maggots are children, remember) at the rotting core of American institutions (Catholicism, Congress). Also, it refers to a girl's swimsuit area.
