Midgett on Electrical Audio mortgage fundraiser: “j/k, nvm”
The plot to pay off Steve Albini’s mortgage is off
Albini says relax.
A little more than a week after it was announced, Tim Midgett—of Silkworm and Bottomless Pit—officially called off the campaign to pay off Electrical Audio’s mortgage. Midgett did so on the EA message board, saying, “At the rate it’s going now, the mortgage will be paid off by the campaign about the same time the studio pays it off.”
The short-lived plan drew compliments, criticism, and questions of “who?” from A.V. Club commenters and posters on the Electrical message board. In an eloquent and thought-out piece, the Chicago Reader’s Miles Raymer reflected on the fundraiser, its implications, and the response from the various parties involved (before it was officially called off).
In a follow-up message, Midgett recommended a similar campaign to those who still feel the need to indirectly give Steve Albini some of their money.
