Music to listen to while growing facial hair

A Logan Square coffeehouse and a record label make a hairy compilation

Since opening in July, Logan Square coffee shop Café Mustache has made its mark by providing a performance space for Chicago musicians. Now, the coffeehouse has teamed up with non-competitive, community-focused record label Commune Records to produce a local music compilation called Mustache Music Volume 1.

The 16-track CD features an eclectic mix of musicians. There’s Angel Olsen, the Chicago-based member of Will Oldham’s new band; indie-pop chameleons and Pitchfork Music Festival alumni Netherfriends; and psych-punk act Plastic Crimewave Sound.

Only 100 copies of the album were made—fortunately, it only costs $10 and is available at the Commune Records site and at Café Mustache. Check the café’s events calendar to catch a couple Mustache Music artists in concert, too.
