New Hood Internet mix-tape hits the "streets" today

hood internet

Chicago mash-up loyalists The Hood Internet, who specialize in bringing together hip-hop and indie rock, released their latest mixtape today online. The material isn't new to the group's fans, as tracks leak onto the site as they're ready, but the mix-tape is a cohesive unit that smooths over song transitions and provides a snapshot of The Hood Internet's technical prowess. This is the fourth themeless mix-tape (the group previously put out a Chicago-only version and various shorter mixes for podcasts), and on first listen, seems the strongest to date. The Beastie Boys meet Matt And Kim, Michael Jackson melds with Ratatat, and Weezer and Glass Candy intertwine. The tape's strength comes in these unexpected combinations, and it's a testament to members Steve Reidell and Aaron Brink that the songs feel like they're made for each other. It's available for download here, as are all the previous mix-tapes. Throw it in your headphones and marvel as the hours melt away.
