Rise Against to play old songs for 10th anniversary show at Metro

Rise Against The Unraveling Rise Against, circa 2001.

Eight years and about a dozen guitar players ago, Chicago punk outfit Rise Against released its debut, The Unraveling, a tuneful if de rigueur blast of Fat Wreck-style punk. A more accomplished and cohesive successor, Revolutions Per Minute, followed in 2003, the last album the band would release on an independent label and before getting big.

To celebrate Rise Against's 10th anniversary, the band has announced a show at the Metro Dec. 18, dubbed "Songs From The Fat Years," that will focus exclusively on The Unraveling and Revolutions Per Minute. Lest anyone get too self-important with all of this navel-gazing, proceeds from the show will benefit the Intonation Music Workshop, a Chicago music-education program for underprivileged kids. In a statement, Rise Against said it plans to make this an annual event in a different city with a different charity every year.

Tickets go on sale Saturday. To get your nostalgia going early, here's Rise Against playing "Like The Angel" from Revolutions Per Minute:
