Rise Against's "Hero Of War" iTunes video of the week
The first time a lot of people heard of Chicago punk outfit Rise Against was via "Swing Life Away," the lone acoustic ballad (and hit song) from the band's 2004 major-label debut, Siren Song Of The Counter Culture. If Rise Against had any real interest in making the big time, the group would have loaded up 2007's The Sufferer & The Witness with copycat songs, but instead there was nary an acoustic guitar in sight.
Well, last year's (fantastic) Appeal To Reason had one, but instead of a sweet-natured ode to the simple life, "Hero Of War" offers a dark portrait (based on true stories, the band says) of the troubled lives of U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. iTunes has selected it as its video of the week this week, so viewers can download it for free.
Once you've done that, Decider suggests a less depressing song, "Audience Of One," a standout from Appeal To Reason. Rise Against is currently on tour with Rancid, but won't return home until August for Lollapalooza.
