Seminal Toyota Scion-approved garage-rock band Reigning Sound announces short summer tour
The garage-rockers of Reigning Sound—from Asheville, North Carolina by way of Memphis—are heading on the road in June for a quick run of dates across part of North America. This includes a date at the Double Door June 17.
Fronted by the insanely prolific Greg Cartwright (The Compulsive Gambler, The Oblivians, Greg Oblivian & The Tip-Tops), Reigning Sound hasn’t released a proper full-length since 2009’s pretty good Love And Curses. The band did, however, put out a few singles late last year, released in conjunction with Toyota’s Scion line of economy cars, in a pretty obvious and confusing attempt to kowtow to Gen-Y, with their rock music and their ripped jeans. Still, the songs are good. And Cartwright is a frontrunner for best contemporary American singer-songwriter (he even made our Best Christmas Music list from last year). So we’re prepared to give the whole guerilla-marketing thing a pass.
