Sit in on Heavy Metal 101 at the Hungry Brain

Going to Ozzfest four years ago didn’t make you as cool as you think.

Is there anything more embarrassing than calling a band doom when it’s clearly drone? It doesn’t need to happen. The Hungry Brain is hosting Heavy Metal 101 on Nov. 9 to educate the population on everything metal as part of the monthly 101 series organized by Homeroom and youmethemeverybody.com.

Metalhead Keidra Chaney will lead a lesson on basic metal classification and history. Poet Michael Robbins will shed some light on being a metal convert later in life. And, the session is not just for metal experts. It will serve all sorts of curious minds: from parents who want to know what the heck their teenage daughter is blaring in her bedroom, to the guy who wants to impress that cute metalhead he met last week. Chicago Underground Film Festival curator Bryan Wendorf will supply the jams before and after the lecture, because there’s only so much you can learn about metal from a lecture.
