HOLIDAY SALE AT THE ONION STORE

Sonotheque turns six

It’s been six years since DJ Joe Bryl and restauranteurs Terry Alexander (of Mia Francesca and Mod) and Donnie Madia (of Blackbird) founded Chicago sound-lounge Sonotheque, and, big shock: They're throwing themselves a big anniversary party for the occasion. At 9 p.m. on Dec. 17, Bryl and DJ Eric Williams will spin throughout the night, mixing hip-hop, afro-beat, funk, and, yes, even nu-jazz on the club’s formidable Funktion One sound system. But Sonotheque also wants to give back—that's why the first 200 guests to this party will receive a free CD. Better yet, RSVP ahead of time on the lounge's website to forgo the $5 cover and get in for free, if you can get over the fact that Sonotheque is actually giving away free CDs.
