More Belly Up
Fall is here, friends, which means it's time to pack on that warming belly fat in preparation for the winter. This week, Chicago provides tons of help in this endeavor, beginning with the annual Andersonville dessert crawl on Sunday. The sugarfest features two different agendas, the "rainbow route" or the "Swedish stroll," or for the very brave, the all-encompassing tour. (Each route boasts 12 locations and lasts three hours.) If you'd rather get your sugar intake from alcohol, In Fine Spirits is hosting a tasting event at the same time. Sunday also plays host to another weird fall festival: the Burgoo Festival in Utica, Ill. (Burgoo is an everything-goes, spicy stew similar to chili. It apparently comes from our Irish brethren.) Back home, Carnivale kicks off its weeklong culinary tour o' Spain on Monday, starting in the Galicia and Asturias region. That means empanadas with roasted peppers, ibérico cheese, and braised chicken, as well as seafood stew. Fatsometer: 6. The two-hour drive to Utica might be well worth it, but you'll be hungry again by the time you arrive home.
