Sufjan Stevens announces fall tour
Denny Renshaw
Sufjan Stevens won’t ever get around to writing those albums about every state in the union (or an entire album about man’s relation to the divine that’s structured around snippets from those states’ individual histories, as the case may be), but the singer-songwriter will pay tribute to 18 of the 50 United States by visiting them on his upcoming fall tour. Beginning in Canada before hitting, appropriately, Michigan and Illinois, the tour marks Stevens’ first major road trip since the announcement of his forthcoming, National-assisted follow-up to 2005’s Illinois. If you’ve been itching to hear what The National’s signature brooding sounds like when combined with Stevens’ orchestral swooning, the following dates—which include an Oct. 15 stop at the Chicago Theatre—most likely mark your first opportunity to do so.
