Newswire Swans comes out of hibernation for fall tour behind new material

Michael Gira is ecstatic to bring his old band back.

Hip '90s record-clerk favorite Swans has just announced it'll be hitting the road for the first time in 13 years this fall for nine shows—including an Oct. 5 stop at the Bottom Lounge—behind its first new album in 14 years. Though he's pressed on since 1999 as Angels Of Light with other collaborators, forlorn-sounding frontman Michael Gira says he had an anticlimactic moment of realization a few years ago during an Angels show where he said to himself, "You know, Michael, Swans wasn't so bad after all." Expect that same enthusiasm to shine through during the following shows:

Sept. 28 Philadelphia,  PA @  Trocodero Theater

Sept. 29 Washington, DC @ Black Cat

Sept. 30 Boston, MA @ Middle East downstairs

Oct. 01 Montreal, QC @  Le National  - Pop Montreal fest

Oct. 02 Toronto, ON @ Lee's  Palace

Oct. 04 Detroit, MI @ Crofoot Ballroom

Oct. 05 Chicago, IL at Bottom Lounge

Oct. 08 Brooklyn, NY @ Brooklyn Masonic Temple.

Oct. 09 New York, NY @  Bowery  Ballroom
