It’s all about eating green for a cause this weekend, beginning with Angelic Organics' third annual Farm Dinner on Aug. 29. If you’re willing to shell out $100 for a ticket plus gas money, the trek to Caledonia will grant you access to a day-long farm tour ending with a feast prepared by chefs Josh Kulp and Christine Cikowski of Sunday Dinner. The meal will feature local, organic dishes, such as confit and grilled Becker Lane pork, micro beer brats, and ratatouille pasta salad with roasted eggplant, squash, and goat cheese.
Meanwhile, within city limits, non-profit Slow Food Chicago hosts its first-ever Benefit Pig Roast Extravaganza at Goose Island Brewery Aug. 30. Five local chefs will divvy up and prep a pig, including Blackbird’s Mike Sheeran and Publican’s Paul Kahan, so here’s your chance to experience the power of pork five-fold for $55. If a total Babe-fest isn’t your thing, take heart: The chefs from Uncommon Ground are dishing out a veggie entrée, and plenty of beer and wine will also be on hand.
Last up, seize yet another opportunity to gorge yourself amidst the company of many, many others at the Taste of Greece Aug. 29-30.Yes, costumed Greeks will dance in circles, and lyres will be plucked, but face it: This particular fest is all about the food. So go on and feign cultural interest while packing in the kebabs, gyros, and baklava from dozens of local eateries.
Fatsometer: 7. Something about communal dining hinders self-control, especially when you’re paying upwards of $100 for the privilege.
