Newswire Talib Kweli and Mos Def—Yasiin, whatever—reuniting for Black Star dates

In exciting news for fans of Yasiin (coughMosDefcough), Black Star—his project with Talib Kweli—has added extra dates to its current tour, including a show at Chicago’s House Of Blues Sept. 23. With a new track snippet released earlier this year—and the recent confirmation of a new album to come in 2012—2011 has been rewarding for patient fans of the hip-hop duo.

Black Star has performed on and off since putting together its influential 1998 release, Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star. Since then, the two duo members have pursued their own personal careers. Both MCs have released several solo albums since the band’s inception, and Mos Def has even gone on to have a relatively successful acting career despite some brief slipups. While Black Star intermittently collaborated for various reasons—including an appearance in the 2006 movie Dave Chapelle’s Block Party—a full-length album hasn’t been released in the past 13 years.
