The Books to play Chicago twice on The Way Out to new album

For a couple of guys who largely write songs by sifting through untold gigs of samples, The Books are not actually shrinking cyber-violets in a live setting. The work of East Coasters Nick Zammuto and Paul De Jong arguably comes more alive onstage, where they play live guitar and string parts composed around their found-audio finds and add synchronized video to give the experience an extra conceptual, funny, and undoubtedly human touch. Their first album in five years, The Way Out, is set for release on July 20 and finds the pair's instruments in conversation with answering-machine messages, children's Talkboy cassettes, and weird new-age spirituality instructions. The Books are hitting Chicago twice behind the new disc: First for a free, all-ages show June 21 at Millenium Park, then again on Oct. 29 at The Vic.
