The lineup for Second City’s 10th-annual Letters To Santa fundraiser was recently announced. The 24-hour marathon fundraiser features performances from folkie troubadours, local (and semi-local) rock groups, and superstars from Chicago’s fertile sketch and improv scenes. From 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6 until 7 p.m. the following day, the holiday-themed event will raise money to help out those Chicago families most in need with “actual cash on actual Christmas Day.”
The evening begins with a message from Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, who will be beaming in live from Minneapolis, kicking things off by auctioning a private show, with all proceeds going to the Letters To Santa program. Other lineup highlights include performances by The Mountain Goats, Danielson, and a 5 a.m. performance by the warbling king of pastoral alt-folk, Bonnie “Prince” Billy.
In between musical sets, improv games, songs, and sketches anchored by local improv lifers TJ Jagadowski, Tim Baltz, and Brendan Jennings will entertain the increasingly slap-happy crowd of comedy nerds, indie-folk superfans, and local do-gooders. In addition to the endless live performances, once-in-a-lifetime experiences and memorabilia will be auctioned and raffled off; past prizes include tickets to an SNL taping, lifetime passes to Lincoln Hall, and a day in the studio with Steve Albini.
Tickets are $20 and are only available at the door the day of the event. The full musical lineup is as follows:
