The Second City/iO's Michael Patrick O'Brien hired for Saturday Night Live's 35th season

Michael Patrick O'Brien, a pillar of the local improv community, has been drafted by Saturday Night Live to join its writing staff, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting. O'Brien has built a considerable following after his years as an instructor at iO as well as a performer in one of the theater's more popular Harold teams, The Reckoning. O'Brien could not be reached for comment, but he's due to move to New York in about two weeks. The Second City hasn't yet announced who will take his spot in its Mainstage show America: All Better!, but co-producer Robin Hammond told The A.V. Club they won't making that decision until closer to his departure.
