Thursday night: A.V. Club and A.V. Club staffers join Flosstradamus to Rock For Kids
It's no secret that Chicago's beloved public schools are underfunded, and it's not surprising that music programs are usually the first to be slashed from budgets. After all, it's hard to justify them when reading comprehension is already suffering. But the folks behind Rock For Kids believe in the power of music education, which is why they work around the clock to provide free, year-round lessons to underprivileged teens.
Of course, they need a little fiscal help every now and then, which is where Thursday night comes in. They'll be hosting a bartending competition at River North's Angels & Kings—yep, that bar partially owned by Pete Wentz, or something—from 8 to 10 p.m., featuring a set from Flosstradamus and a chance to schmooze with us Decider and A.V. Club writers. There's a $5 suggested donation at the door, and 100 percent of the proceeds from drink sales go directly to Rock For Kids; also, talk with members of our office, as they say, is cheap.
