Thursday-Sunday night: Cinematic Titanic
The bemused B-movie bashers of Mystery Science Theater 3000 still enjoy a strong cult after going off the air in 1999, but none of the many talented comics the show spawned found much breakaway success afterwards. So it's not too surprising to see them returning to similar projects—former host Mike Nelson started MP3 download service Rifftrax, which offers pre-recorded MST3K-like commentary, and Joel Hodgson, the original host and creator, is now heading up Cinematic Titanic, which has a three-night run at the Lakeshore. Hodgson's new show hews closer to the familiar format of guys in silhouette mocking Z-grade movies, but also features quite a few familiar cast members. They'll hit the Lakeshore with three movies they've never before mocked in front of audiences: Santa Claus Conquers The Martian, Frankenstein's Castle Of Freaks, and Blood Of The Vampires.
