Today in music videos: Jeff Tweedy + Olive Oyl = true love forever
Now it all makes sense. While the news earlier this week of Wilco’s appearance in the Sunday paper’s Popeye strip seemed out of left field, today comes the fruit of that intermingling: a video for “Dawned On Me” featuring the whole cartooned crew. In it, the band jams out on a dock in front of its spinach delivery ship, only to have Popeye, Wimpy, Bluto, Swee’Pea, and Olive Oyl emerge from one tiny can. Much dancing ensues, but is interrupted as first Jeff Tweedy and then Bluto vie for Olive Oyl’s eerily thin heart. We won’t spoil the ending here, but we will just point out that Jeff Tweedy is a married man, and what happens is not cool, even for a fine piece of tail like Ms. Oyl.
Wilco is on tour now on the West Coast and will appear on Austin City Limits next month.
