Tree Of Life, The Interrupters nab Chicago Film Critics Association honors
Chicago-area film critics, including four of The A.V. Club’s writers, have cast their vote for the best of the best in last year’s films as part of the Chicago Film Critics Association, who today announced the winners of their 2011 awards.
Terrence Malick’s Tree Of Life continued its charge towards what appears to be some inevitable Oscar nominations as it picked up four awards: best picture, best director, best supporting actress (Jessica Chastain), and best cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki). Others honored by the CFCA include Elizabeth Olsen for her performance in Martha Marcy May Marlene, Albert Brooks for his brilliant villainous turn in Drive, and the gritty documentary The Interrupters. Many of these films also made the top of The A.V. Club’s best of 2011 list posted last week.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Chicago Broadway Playhouse on Jan. 7. The ceremony will also feature special awards given out to Shirley MacLaine, James Earl Jones, Dennis Farina, and Jason Segel. Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster.
