Trust Tapes
Welcome to Tapes ’n’ Tapes, a bimonthly video series focusing on local cassette labels to help get the feel for why some people have turned to tapes for their musical medium.
About a year and a half ago, Evan Burrows launched Trust Tapes so he could release the full-length album by his then-current indie-rock band, Caw! Caw! (not to be confused with local grungy punk act Cacaw). That group’s album, Bummer Palace, actually came out on vinyl and CD rather than cassette, but Burrows has stayed faithful to his label’s name since then. He’s released cassettes by the likes of glammy power-pop act Tender and his newest group, a soulful punk trio called Close Hits.
The A.V. Club headed to Trust Tapes’ temporary base of action in the Ukrainian Village to discuss engaging with recordings, how the label is run differently from others, and the little world that cassettes call home.
