U2 at Soldier Field in Chicago
The stateside debut of the "U2 360" tour takes place September 12
Last week U2 released its 12th album No Line On The Horizon, which took five years, four recording studios, and three superstar producers to make. Decider wonders: Why has it become so difficult to make a U2 record? And why, after all that time and effort, is Horizon still not very good? Not that it really matters—U2 has reached the point in its career where new albums act primarily as an excuse to make a gajillion dollars on the road, and in that respect the band is as great as ever. While Horizon fails to deliver on promises of a new and improved U2, the “U2 360” tour will boast the latest and greatest in live rock ‘n’ roll technology when it finally comes to the U.S. starting Sept. 12 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
According to MTV.com, the band’s stage will be in the round and include a cylindrical video screen. (Check out the stage configuration on U2’s website.) No word yet on specific ticket prices, though the band is pledging to price at least 10,000 tickets at around $30 at every venue, and 85 percent of all tickets at less than $95. (That's only one week's worth of groceries!) Tour openers include Glasvegas, Elbow, Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol, and Black Eyed Peas.
