UPDATE: Jimmy Chamberlin leaves Smashing Pumpkins
Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the "reunited" Smashing Pumpkins for good as of Friday, according to a post on the band's website. There was no reason given for his sudden departure, which comes just as frontman/hired-gun-enthusiast Billy Corgan intends to write and record the follow-up to 2007's improperly titled Zeitgeist. (He'll still retain the Smashing Pumpkins name for the record even though he's essentially a solo artist now.) Unlike his former bandmates, bassist D'arcy Wretzky and guitarist James Iha, Chamberlin can now distinguish himself as being lucky enough to leave the Pumpkins twice.
UPDATE: Chamberlin has come forward on his personal blog with details on his sudden exit: "I can no longer commit all of my energy into something that I don't fully possess... I can't just 'cash the check' so to speak." Or he can't anymore, perhaps. The drummer also wished Corgan good luck and he'll continue working on his own musical projects.
