Weekend Agenda: Sept. 11-13

YACHT YACHT

FRIDAY

The headphone set has some tough choices Friday night. Yacht is playing at the Empty Bottle, and since the arty electro-pop duo seems to be every critic's new favorite band, plan on getting there early. Those looking for more danceable electro-pop should head to Double Door to catch Datarock and Esser. The two could easily turn the dingy rock venue into a full-on dance club. For people who would rather convulse than merely move their feet, prog-rockers The Mars Volta will be at the Congress Theater. Head over to the Music Box after to wind down (or tense up) with a midnight showing of Aliens. Here's Yacht with "Psychic City":

SATURDAY

Those who didn’t pre-order tickets to the Matt And Kim and Amanda Blank Bottom Lounge show can drown their tears at the Bloodshot Beer-B-Q, where Alejandro Escovedo, The Waco Brothers, and much of the rest of Bloodshot’s back catalogue are coming together to celebrate the label's 15th anniversary. Those looking to drink earlier can pre-game in the classiest way possible at the Windy City Wine Festival in Grant Park. Here's Escovedo's "I Wanna Be Your Dog":

SUNDAY

U2 will be taking over Soldier Field Sunday (and Saturday), turning the entire South Loop into a commuting mess. Brave the crowds, though; it’s worth it to finally scope out U2’s famous stage-show and catch openers Snow Patrol. A more low-key Sunday can be found at the Park West, where pop-master Todd Rundgren will crank out new hits and hopefully a rendition of the infectious “My Best Friend’s Girl.” Or, be even lazier and head over to Delilah’s for its Freaks And Geeks Festival, where sitting in front of the TV can feel sort of like having friends. Here's a clip from the show:
