No Doubt and Jane's Addiction reunite for tours coming to Chicago area this summer
For a whole generation of pop music fans, No Doubt is a footnote in the smashingly successful career of pouting Madonnabe Gwen Stefani, who boldly stepped away from her skanking bandmates with her brilliantly synthetic 2004 debut Love. Angel. Music. Baby. and never looked back. Until now, that is.
This summer Stefani—it seems safe to assume that this was strictly her call—is reuniting No Doubt for the first time in five years for a tour that will stop the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre on July 11. “The whole reason for going on this tour was to have fun, try on all our favorite songs again and to get inspired to make more music,” Stefani said in a statement, because it sounds better than saying, “This is an easy way to make to a quick buck now that my solo career has cooled.” Anyway, tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on March 7 through Ticketmaster. Opening the show is pop-punk outfit Paramore, led by 20-year-old Gwenabe Hayley Williams, who was 6 when No Doubt released its 1995 breakthrough Tragic Kingdom.
It’s hard to tell whether a No Doubt reunion is more momentous than Jane’s Addiction getting back together—Jane’s is a better band, but the group has reformed periodically over the years since breaking up in 1991. But on the band’s new tour with Nine Inch Nails, coming June 17 to Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin according to Muzzle Of Bees, all four original members—including prodigal bassist Eric Avery—will be involved. Of course, Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro have sucked much longer than they’ve been great, but this still might be worth getting excited about. There’s no ticket information yet, so fans will want to keep their eyes peeled on Nine Inch Nails' website.
