Just Announced Wilco announces a new string of tour dates for early winter

Wilco seems to be able to piss off somebody no matter what it does. Getting its start as a (mostly) straight alt-country band in the mid-’90s, Wilco threw its early fans for a loop with heavy lyrical and sonic experimentation in the early ’00s. The band then managed to anger fans of that material with the more traditional sound of 2007’s Sky Blue Sky (and the resulting VW commercials). But if you can roll with Wilco’s punches—or if you just want to see what the band’s going to do next—you probably won’t be upset by Wilco’s announcement of several new, early winter tour dates, including a Dec. 12 stop at the Civic Opera House. No on-sale date for tickets has been announced.

The band is touring in support of its new release, The Whole Love, due out Sept. 27. The album is Wilco’s first release on its own label, dBpm Records. Wilco has so far dropped two tracks in advance of the release date: the fuzzed-out stomper “I Might,” and a warm, laid-back cover of Nick Lowe’s “I Love My Label.” Jury’s still out on exactly how many Wilco fans this one will annoy.
