Some of The A.V. Club's pals have slipped us a pair of tickets to give away to the MGMT and AWOLNATION show this Friday at House of Blues. Interested parties should e-mail ochicago@theonion.com before 9 a.m. this Thursday, Aug. 5. Winners will be picked at random later that day.
MGMT is the duo behind the ubiquitous pop ditties "Time to Pretend" and "Kids," of course, but AWOLNATION is a little more obscure. AWOL, the man behind the band, is a blitz-pop hype master in the vein of Electric Six or Junior Senior. The adrenaline-soaked beats behind songs like "Burn It Down" should have the 17+ crowd raging and ready for MGMT's psych-pop schizophrenia.
The show is an official Lollapalooza after-party, as well as a Dare 2 Dream benefit for the People's Music School in Uptown, the only tuition-free community music school of its kind in the United States.
