Lincoln Hall and Schubas get experimental

Clinic

The A.V. Club has pairs of tickets for a couple upcoming shows: Clinic at Lincoln Hall Nov. 11 and Tunng at Schubas Nov. 17. Interested parties should e-mail ochicago@theonion.com, including either “Clinic” or “Tunng” in the subject line. Please make sure to include a full name in the body of the message.

Clinic formed in Liverpool in 1997. Since that time the band has become known for making experimental alternative rock featuring the organ, very short albums a.k.a. “long players,” and unusual concert attire. The band’s onstage outfits often reflect the particular sound of the album that they are promoting. How will the sound of Bubblegum, Clinic’s sixth and most recent album, manifest itself in wardrobe? Traditional scrubs? Hawaiian shirts? Something entirely new? Only time will tell, though it’s safe to bet that the members of Clinic will be rocking their trademark surgical masks.

The members of Tunng have come a long way since their humble beginnings scoring soft-core porn. Tunng’s music has been featured in TV ads and The OC, and the group earned a slot performing at Glastonbury last year. Tunng has done it all while marching to its own, um, seashell. The folktronica group does not limit itself to “conventional” instruments, and has incorporated things like seashells and birdcages in its music. Someone in the soft-core industry must find it erotic.
