The A.V. Club and the Double Door are giving some lucky readers a chance to win tickets to two upcoming shows. Peforming on Thursday, March 10 is nu-disco trio Jessica 6. On Saturday, March 12, Great American Taxi will be stopping by on its latest go-round along with J Roddy Walston And The Business and Mountain Sprout. To win, interested parties should send an e-mail over to ochicago@theonion.com with either “Jessica 6” or “Great American Taxi” in the subject line. Winners will be drawn a day or two prior to the show.
Jessica 6 is a nu-disco trio from Brooklyn, led by front woman Nomi Ruiz. When Ruiz met bassist Andrew Raposo and keys and synth-master Morgan Wiley while doing vocals for Hercules And Love Affair’s debut album, the trio decided to make its own electronic soul band. This May, Jessica 6 will release its debut album, See The Light, which features the recently released single White Horse.
Great American Taxi dominates the jam band scene with a sound that has been compared, affectionately, to The Grateful Dead and Wilco. Great American Taxi was formed from the ruins of Leftover Salmon after banjo player Mark Vann passed away in 2002. Great American Taxi released its debut, Streets of Gold, in 2007 and, in 2010, followed it up with Reckless Habits.
