Contest Win tickets to one of four Metro shows this month

The A.V. Club has tickets to give away for The Sword, Subfix Massive III, The Hush Sound, and Yeasayer

The Sword

The A.V. Club has a pair of tickets to give away for four Metro shows. On Dec. 12, The Sword will be brandished, along with Karma to Burn and Mount Carmel. On Dec. 18, Metro and Smart Bar will jointly host Subfix Massive III, an all-building techno event. On Dec. 26, the reunited Hush Sound will perform with This Is Me Smiling, Debello, and The Orwells. And on Dec. 30, Yeasayer and Health will rock out. To win, send an email to ochicago@theonion.com with “The Sword,” “Subfix Massive,” “The Hush Sound,” or “Yeasayer” in the subject line.

The Sword is a heavy metal band from Austin, Texas. On this tour, the band is breaking in “intergalactic bounty drummer,” Kevin Fender, who was just added to the lineup last month. The Sword’s retro stoner-metal style is influenced by Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. The quartet is also allowing its inner-nerd to shine on its newest album, Warp Riders, a concept album based an original sci-fi story by frontman J.D. Cronise.

Subfix Massive is a ten-artist techno/dubstep event taking place in both Metro and Smart Bar. Metro will feature performances by Eskmo, Liquid Stranger, MC Zulu, FSTZ, Phaded, and Chris Widman. Meanwhile, Martyn, Shiva, Jeff Pietro, and Thunder St. Clair will provide the jams in Smart Bar. One ticket allows access into both venues, but attendees must be 21 to get in to Smart Bar, so bring an ID.

The Hush Sound hails from Illinois’ own DuPage County. The foursome formed in 2005, offering a composite-style genre, borrowing from blues, swing, and rock. After a few years of doing the rock band thing, The Hush Sound went on hiatus, but they are reuniting for this one show at Metro.

Yeasayer’s indie experimentation has been pretty successful. So many fans wanted to catch its self-described “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel” with psychedelic light show at the Metro, they had to add a second show. The band’s video for “Madder Red” probably provided Kristen Bell with the strangest pet-owner role she will ever receive.
