Contest Win tickets to Orgone or The Coronas

The Coronas

The A.V. Club has tickets to give away to two shows this week. On Sunday, March 13, the cosmically funky L.A. group Orgone will be performing with The Right Now and DJRC at Schubas. On Thursday, March 17, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Lincoln Hall with some fellas straight outta Dublin—The Coronas, who will be performing along with Rob Nicholas. To win, interested parties should send an e-mail over to ochicago@theonion.com with either “Orgone” or “The Coronas” in the subject line. Winners will be drawn a day or two prior to the show.

Los Angeles funk and soul band Orgone has been around for nearly two decades. The band began its career as a backing band for hip-hop groups like Little Brother, The Pharcyde, and UGK’s Bun B, but over the last decade, the group has made a name for itself by touring with The Roots and Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings. Influenced by The Meters and Booker T. and The MG’s, Orgone smoothly pulls off the raw funk sound of the ’60s and ’70s. In 2010, the band dropped two albums: Cali Fever and Killion Vaults.

Irish rock quintet The Coronas has been together and releasing music since its members were a mere 15 years old. The band has released two studio albums: In 2007, the band’s debut EP, Heroes Or Ghosts, achieved platinum sales in Ireland and helped the band become an overnight sensation there. Two years later, The Coronas released their second studio album, Tony Was An Ex-Con, which topped the Irish iTunes album chart. Though the band hasn’t released anything since 2009, this current tour is its first American headlining jaunt.
