Contest Win tickets to Rubblebucket or Free Energy at the Double Door

Rubblebucket

The A.V. Club has tickets to give away to two shows at the Double Door. On Saturday, Jan. 15, the wildly harmonious Rubblebucket will be playing, along with Aetiology, The Town Monster, and The High Dials. On Thursday, Jan. 20, Philly classic rock revivalists Free Energy will be playing, along with The Postelles, and Light Pollution. To win, interested parties should send an e-mail to ochicago@theonion.com and include either “Rubblebucket” or “Free Energy” in the subject line.

Rubblebucket’s origin story began in 2007 at a broken-down milk bottling plant in Burlington, Vermont, when vocalist-saxophonist Kalmia Traver met trumpeter Alex Toth. The two would later pick up six more members while circling the East Coast B-trifecta of Burlington, Boston, and Brooklyn. Rubblebucket’s talent and attitude toward embracing all sounds put the band on a prosperous path toward good times and a successful career.

Formed from the remains of indie band Hockey Night, Free Energy emerged out of Philly with its own interpretation of ’70s classic rock that is strong, fun, and, refreshingly, not another indie project. Free Energy’s lively classic rock hooks are reminiscent of Thin Lizzy. Its style may be conventional, but it’s the product of five guys who have had nearly three decades to explore and refine classic rock.
