Contest Win tickets to see Brian Posehn at the Cubby Bear

Brian Posehn is bringing his nerd rage-fueled stand-up show to the Cubby Bear on Nov. 13, and The A.V. Club has the distinct pleasure of giving out five pairs of passes to loyal readers. Anyone interested in winning should send an e-mail to ochicago@theonion.com with “Posehn” in the subject line.

Much like his bro in geekdom, Patton Oswalt, Posehn leads something of a double life. Splitting the difference between middle-of-the-road sitcom drudgery and alt-comedy glory, Posehn is best known by the CBS-watching silent majority for his roles in straightforward sitcoms. In sitcoms, he plays affable weirdos who appear from the background for comic relief and then disappear before wearing out their welcome. Comedy obsessives, on the other hand, understand Posehn for who he really is: a filthy minded, quick-witted nerd with an impressive grasp of the craft that goes into successful stand-up. Posehn’s most recent album, Fart & Wiener Jokes, was released on metal superlabel Relapse Records earlier this year. The album features straightforward live stand-up plus a few studio tracks, including a brutalized version of “The Gambler” that might be the best thing ever.
