Win tickets to see Commander Cody at SPACE Feb. 10
They got all dressed up for the show.
The A.V. Club has tickets to check out American music pioneer Commander Cody on Thursday, Feb. 10 at Evanston SPACE, along with The Hoyle Brothers. Interested parties should e-mail ochicago@theonion.com and be sure to include “Commander Cody” in the subject line.
Back in the late ’60s, Commander Cody was part of a rowdy group of guys called Commander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen. These guys were all about putting some swing into old-time country, and were predicted to be as big as The Eagles. The book Star Making Machinery used the group’s history as an example of the music industry’s attempt to force a band to change its ways for the industry’s own marketing purposes. In true rock ’n’ roll spirit, Commander Cody said “no way,” and shortly later, the group split up. Since, Commander Cody has gone his own way and continues to play the favorites that came out of his wild years, as well as a little bit of new material.
