Contest Win tickets to see CSS at Metro May 21

The A.V. Club has free tickets to give away for a fun weekend, filled with the upbeat sound of summer and international tunes from Brazilian and Belgian bands, with a shout-out from the west coast. CSS, Princeton, and Daan will collectively fill Metro with playful, funky sounds on May 21. For a chance to snag the tickets, send an e-mail to ochicago@theonion.com with “CSS” in the subject line.

The Brazilian band CSS has jocular roots, a quintet named for Beyoncé’s ridiculous quote about being “tired of being sexy” with a playful sound that’s a perfect soundtrack to summer. The band is currently on a large tour with its new album, La Liberación. The band’s colorful wardrobe and neo-funk groovy tunes, interlaced with the buzzing of synths, will get audiences jazzed for the incoming tolerable weather.

Composed one part of Belle And Sebastian and other part by The Decemberists, the band Princeton has mellow melodies that are characteristic of both bands. The Californian band debuted with its full-length album Cocoon Of Love and recently added “To The Alps” and “The Electrician” to its arsenal. Deviating from the fresh, springy sound of the previous younger bands, veteran band Daan brings a more mature sound to the stage. The Belgian band, led by Dead Man Ray’s Daan Stuyven, isn’t afraid to layer on synths and other electrical gadgets in its songs. But really, Stuyven’s baritone voice that colors everything in an unnecessarily sexual tone should be enough to make the band pop from the rest of the lineup.
